Zeil
Whatever customers are looking for, they will most likely find it on Frankfurt’s most popular shopping mile, the ‘Zeil’. This is not only where the most well-known department store chains are to be found, but also where a host of specialised shops offer an extensive range of goods. No wonder then that the ‘Zeil’ is one of the streets with the highest turnover in Europe.

Right at the ‘Hauptwache’, there are the shopping centres, ‘Zeilgalerie’ and ‘Frankfurt Hoch 4’. A special attraction is the viewing platform on the roof of the Zeilgalerie. From here, visitors have an impressive view over the skyscrapers and the entire city to the Taunus mountains.

After or during the shopping tour, visitors can take a break in one of the cafes, snack bars or restaurants. In fine weather, they can also sit outside because the Zeil is also a leafy pedestrian zone. And so that visitors do not have to carry heavy shopping bags all the time, a special service is offered: plenty of lockers are available for use on the B-level of Frankfurt Hauptwache.

On Thursday and Saturday, the growers’ market on the Konstablerwache right on the Zeil is worth a visit after a shopping spree. This is where growers offer their own products, from fresh vegetables and tasty cheese, to fine bottles of wine. And typical regional specialities too, such as the Grüne Soße, a traditional sauce usually made from hard-boiled eggs and seven types of herbs.

Fressgass´
This stretch of the street between Opernplatz and Börsenstraße is actually called ‘Große Bockenheimer Straße’, but for the locals, this pedestrian zone is always the ‘Fressgass’. For this is where Frankfurt’s culinary temptations are particularly great: restaurants and fine food shops invite you into the national and international world of gourmets. A visit to one of the street cafes is less costly and here visitors can watch the activities on the strolling mile, particularly in the summer. Those who just happen to be on a diet and cannot enjoy this culinary paradise may find something suitable in the noble boutiques and exclusive shops – depending on the size of their wallet or purse.

Goethe Street
Goethestraße is Frankfurt’s ‘Fifth Avenue’ because here, west of the Zeil, classy shops display the latest collections of international top designers. The designer fashion ranges from Armani to Versace. So that customers can adorn themselves with matching jewellery too, exclusive brands such as Cartier and Tiffany are also represented here. Furthermore, the shopping street, that is just under 400 metres long, offers, for example, shops in the areas of art dealing, household goods and opticians.

Visitors can buy less expensive products in the adjoining streets. Schillerstraße and Steinweg are popular and both are connected via a covered passageway with shops and restaurants. Every Friday, a weekly market with around 50 stalls is held in Schillerstraße.
Interesting for the event calendar: the annual Fressgass’ festival in June and the annual Rheingau Wine Market in August. Both events are among the most popular festivals in Frankfurt.
